Bob “The Hound” Kelly

Bob “The Hound” Kelly
Flyers Ambassador of Hockey

Flyers Left Wing
1970-71 through 1979-80

Bob was a member of both of the Flyers’ Stanley Cup-winning teams, in 1973-74 and 1974-75. His most notable moment occurred when he scored the Stanley Cup game-winning goal in the Flyers’ 2-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres in Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals on May 27, 1975. Bob was also a member of the Flyers team that put together a 35-game unbeaten streak in 1979-80, which still stands as the longest undefeated streak in professional sports history. He is only one of six players to appear on all three historic Flyers teams. He still ranks among the top 10 of several Flyers’ All-Time Lists, including games played (741 - fifth), penalty minutes (1,285 - seventh) and points for a left wing (296 - sixth).

In 12 NHL seasons from 1970-71 through 1981-82, Bob recorded 154 goals and 208 assists for 362 points and 1,454 penalty minutes in 837 NHL regular season games with Philadelphia and the Washington Capitals. He played 10 seasons for the Flyers, recording 128 goals and 168 assists for 296 points and 1,285 penalty minutes in 741 games. He was drafted by the Flyers in the third round (32nd overall) of the 1970 Amateur Draft.

An important part of the Flyers organization since 1970, Bob now represents the Flyers in the community as their “Ambassador of Hockey” bringing goodwill wherever he can. Throughout the year, he visits schools and hospitals, participating in golf outings and attending charitable events. Bob also works with the Flyers’ Fan Development Department by making appearances and conducting hockey clinics, including the popular “Hooked on Hockey” program.

Bob was born on November 25, 1950 in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
